Donald Oakes is the founder of Mainely Makers, a unique woodworking maker space in West Kennebunk, Maine. With a lifelong passion for woodworking passed down through generations, Donald’s craft has spanned from early carpentry projects to intricate designs like church doors. His career took a heartwarming turn when he opened Mainely Makers in 2025, fulfilling a shared dream with his late son, Jameson, who tragically passed away in 2024.

For Donald, woodworking has always been a creative journey. As a young boy in Ipswich, Massachusetts, he learned the craft from his father, uncle, and grandfather. Over the years, his skills evolved, moving from simple carpentry to more artistic creations. At Mainely Makers, Donald has created a space that invites both seasoned professionals and newcomers alike to explore woodworking in a warm, community-focused environment.
